Spring 2006 – Summer 2008
Partners in Portugal, France, Romania, and Ireland. Funded by the European Commision's Lifelong Learning Programme
The Carnival Learning Centre has been investigating and assessing how participation in carnival and the arts can have a positive impact on local and community development.
Organisations from partner countries working in the field of community and arts learning team up to form an alliance to investigate the theme. Teams of learners and tutors visit one another’s country, talking to practitioners and viewing case studies to draw out threads of commonality and identify best practice.
In July 2007, all partners spent five days on the Isle of Wight, looking at how the Arts Parade in Ryde has contributed to the town’s regeneration agenda.
The project culminates in July with the publishing of an exit report which should be available online at Grundtvig.
The project has been immensely worthwhile and satisfying in many ways. The forging of cross-European partnerships and development of personal and professional friendships will long out-live the project’s immediate lifespan and partners are already discussing future collaborations.
