The Arts Parade, Ryde, ready to go for 2008!

The Arts Parade in Ryde, flagship event for the Carnival Learning Centre and for many the most loved parade of the year, has confirmed the date of this year’s parade as Saturday 5 July.

The parade will again coincide with the date for the Ryde Regatta held on Ryde seafront, where entertainments are scheduled throughout the weekend, and with the annual Ryde Arts Festival, now in its 7th year.

The parade assembles at Dover Park School in Dover St from 12 noon for a 1.15pm departure. The route is: Dover St to Star St to High St to Union St to the Esplande. Finish at the Regatta site at Eastern Esplanade Gardens at 2.45 approx.

About the Arts Parade

The only carnival on the Island to present an all-pedestrian choreographed procession, with spectacular costumes, samba bands, stilt performers, soca music and more, the Arts Parade is a joyous, vibrant and lively affair, with entries from many schools and community groups from Ryde, Sandown, Newport and Ventnor. Many of the courses and mas camps at the new Carnival Learning Centre will be focussed on this one event, and costumes and performances, once created, go on to enhance the main summer carnivals around the Island.

Each year we choose a theme that will encourage schools to participate by linking into other areas of work within the curriculum.

This year’s theme is WEIRD SCIENCE!

The mas camp sessions at the Centre (Fridays starting 9 May) are open to group leaders and individuals who would like help developing their ideas or prototyping group costumes.

Entries for the Arts Parade must pre-register.
