Arts Parade 2009-2012 Themes announced

The Arts Parade, Ryde.

Saturday 11 July 2009. Dover St to Ryde Esplanade. Starts 1pm.

This is the Centre’s flagship event. Started in 2003, it has grown in size, quality and diversity over the years to become a real favourite for performers and visitors alike. Over 1000 costumed performers and musicians from local schools and community groups take part.

This year’s theme is the first in a series of four, counting down to the London Olympics in 2012. We want you, like us, to be inspired by the themes and core values of the Cultural Olympiad. (The Cultural Olympiad aspires to involve every young person in the country in nation-wide celebration, focussing on the arts, culture, heritage and the environment as well as the Games themselves. 2009 Theme: Everyone’s Games
Lets celebrate… ancient games, modern games, traditional games, fantasy games, board games, nursery games, team games, games from around the world, games to learn by, games to challenge, games for sharing. It’s the taking part that counts!

2010 Theme: Amazing Journeys
People from all over the world make journeys every day, to work or school, to visit friends and new places and to achieve their ‘personal best’. We want to celebrate amazing journeys, voyages of discovery, journeys that have changed the world and journeys that have inspired others.

2011 Theme: Welcoming the World: Part 1. English custom and folklore
This year the Isle of Wight will be welcoming the world to the Island Games in June. We want our visitors to take something of our own heritage away with them, so bring out the baldricks, tether your mallyshags and delve into local legends, ancient celebrations and tales of yore for your inspiration!

2012 Theme: Welcoming the World: Part 2.  The Best of Modern Britain.
Lets celebrate our built and natural environment, our diverse communities and rich cultural mix, our achievement in sports, arts and technology. The Cultural Olympiad pledges to leave a legacy for our young people and future generations. This is your chance to express that view through the masquerade.
