LANTERN MAKING

The Island hosts an average of 8 winter carnivals and lantern parades during November and December each year. What better way to get involved than by making your own lantern to carry in the procession? Or by training up to be a Lantern Leader and helping others to participate?

Create your own lantern

During the autumn term we offer opportunities for individuals and groups to make their lanterns with us, supported by expert advice from Carnival Learning Centre tutors. We also run master classes in giant lantern making and illuminated structures for those who already have basic lantern skills. Check out the latest programme for details.

Lantern Leaders Certificate

The Lantern Leaders course was developed by our own tutors in 2004 to support teachers and group leaders in running their own workshops. It covers everything you need to know about lantern making including basic techniques, workshop management and safety on parade, with lots of supporting handouts. This is a five hour Certificated course, usually run over two evenings or a single day. Contact us if you are interested in taking part.
