The Island hosts an average of 8 winter carnivals and lantern parades during November and December each year. What better way to get involved than by making your own lantern to carry in the procession? Or by training up to be a Lantern Leader and helping others to participate?
A two-part evening course for adults working with schools or community groups or hoping to lead their own lantern making workshops in the future. Covers: how to make a simple lantern from willow and tissue paper, risk assessments and hazard spotting, workshop management and safety on parade. Lots of handouts.
Mondays 6.30pm to 9pm
13 & 20 October (must attend both) £25/£15
Weekend masterclass for those with basic lantern making skills. Create large character heads and puppets in willow and cane for the Lantern Carnival in Ryde.
Saturday and Sunday 11 and 12 October
10.30am to 4pm each day. £25/£15
Make your own small individual lantern to carry in one of this season’s winter parades. For adults and accompanied children over 7 years.
