The Book

In December 2006 we produced our first book – CARNIVAL ISLAND -
a suberb quality, full colour, 30 x 25cm, 100 page coffee table book.

Its contents are the harvest from an adult learning course which invited those taking part to focus their photographic and literary skills and knowledge on the Isle of Wight carnival chameleon.

For a number of weeks the students studied photography, creative writing and design & layout in the classroom before going out onto the streets to record the 17 summer processions which secure the isle of Wight’s standing as one of the most inclined to celebrate areas in the country.

As the team which brought those images together discovered, carnival is enjoyment on an unrivalled scale: a long established excuse to play, create, shed inhibitions and notch up memories to last a lifetime.

The book oozes colour, passion, enthusiasm and vibrancy and is a tribute to those who create, perform and live for carnival.
